Specialization in projects for museums began in 1976 with a commission to design a new museum for Charleston, South Carolina. Since then, studies and design services for more than thirty institutions have been undertaken. The largest of these is the 185,000 SF Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History at the University of Oklahoma.

The firm's skill in preserving the integrity of historic sites while meeting the needs of visitors is apparent in its design work at the Frederick Law Olmsted National Historic Site in Brookline, Massachusetts, the Patrick J Mogan Cultural Center in Lowell, Massachusetts, and the New Bedford Whaling Museum, which is a primary focus of the New Bedford National Whaling Historic Park.

Conservation and research laboratory design and the design of collections storage areas and storage systems have emerged as sub-specialties from the firm's considerable experience with museum work. Many of these projects have resulted from building environment and collections storage assessment funded by grants from the NEA, NEH, and IMLS.

In recent years, museum assessment, programming and master planning have taken an increasingly important role in the firm's work. The Sam Noble Oklahoma Museum of Natural History, the New Bedford Whaling Museum, and Albany Institute of History & Art projects began with masterplan efforts.
