This “Craftsman” style cottage was built in 1916 as a “Playhouse” and book bindery. It was clad in indigenous marble in a random ashlar pattern, with leaded glass casement windows and an asbestos shingle roof. Following a conditions assessment and master plan for adaptive reuse, the cottage was restored and renovated as a guest house. The stone facades were cleaned and repointed. New mottled slate roofs were installed along with new copper gutters and downspouts. All original lead glass windows and doors were removed and restored.
Interior field stone fireplaces and decorative wood mantels were cleaned and repaired. The existing fir floors at the main level were repaired and refinished and new 16” x 24” quartzite floors were installed at the lower level. New cast bronze exterior lighting fixtures were created for the house and porches. Existing interior lighting was restored and additional fixtures were custom designed for renovated spaces.
