This 12,500 SF vacation home includes the remnants of a 19th century barn structure and a mid 20th century rustic stone Great Room. The renovation and additions reflect the unique and challenging qualities of the wetlands and steeply sloping grades. Plans incorporate building additions flanking the original structures. On the south side, a 3 bay garage, main entry area, stair tower and master suite occupy 2.5 stories connected at existing levels. On the north side, a Family TV room overlooks a 3 story Kitchen and Living/Dining Room, with basement areas housing staff, wine room, canning room, and mechanical spaces.
Natural stone, cedar shingles and standing seam metal roofs integrate the complex building masses and lend a “village” feel to the new complex. Extensive site grading and landscape design were required to re orient the driveway to the opposite side of the house leaving the views clear at the pond side of the site. This project is a 2012
Marvin Architect’s Challenge Award Recipient.
